Description

Inside a drop of water that you collect from a river or ocean are tiny organism. These somtimes tiny floating creatures are called plankton. Life in the ocean needs plankton to survive!

During this activity you will learn what plankton is, how many types of plankton there are, what plankton look like through microscope, what they eat, what role plankton play in aquatic food webs and some fun facts. You will also learn how to create your own food web, analyze the feeding relationships between marine organisms and describe plankton’s importance to the ecosystem.

Weather permiting studetns will collect their own plankton, wear shoes that can get wet and other outdoor appropriate attire. Children must be supervised by parent or guardian.
