Planets & Branches is a one-night performance event and discussion aimed at exploring the impact of rape culture and the many ways it influences individuals, relationships, families, and communities. The intention of the evening is to explore these issues as a community to create a deeper understanding.
Local Bay Area playwrights and actors will gather to present multiple 1-10 minute performance pieces that address issues related to rape culture, such as victim-blaming, toxic masculinity, and other contributing factors. Following the performance, there will be a discussion led by criminal justice professor Dr. Alissa Ackerman, from University of Washington, Tacoma. In addition to being a criminologist and expert in sex-crime policy, she is an advocate for survivors, having recently written the article An Unlikely Bond for Psychology Today.
Ticket proceeds will benefit SF Women Against Rape and their fundraising event Walk Against Rape, on April 8, 2017.
