Description

Join us on Oct. 3 for an Intensive covering several aspects of business operations, from accounting to scaling to efficiencies. All Plan for Growth cohort participants are invited to attend. RSVP by Sept. 22, and please note we need to keep RSVPs to 20 people.

Session 1: Creating a Plan for Operational Efficiency (VSM)
In this session, participants will learn how to lay the groundwork for optimized operational efficiency in their business. Value Stream Mapping (VSM), a diagnostic tool for business operations, maps out the processes of the business providing key metrics and insights into the businesses operations. The VSM also yields an improvement plan and plan for future optimized business processes. Participants will work as a team to develop VSMs for their business and take away strategies to improve cost, quality, safety and on time deliveries.

Session 2: Creating Your Ideal Workspace
Securing sufficient space to house operations can be difficult for manufacturers in New York’s pricey real estate market. Alongside an industry expert in building and retrofitting manufacturing and industrial spaces, participants will have the opportunity to envision an ideal manufacturing space suited to the particular needs of their business. By taking time to consider how operations are conducted in physical workspaces, participants will be able to think through the efficiency of their current spaces, and consider effective strategies to maximize the potential of their space. Through this session, participants will provide valuable feedback to those who are curating opportunities for industrial manufacturing spaces throughout the boroughs of NYC.

Session 3: Scaling Operations with a Focus on Inventory
Business growth comes with many opportunities, but whether scaling operations seasonally, or beginning to scale for the long term, there are many risks involved and planning efficiently is the key to growing physical inventory responsibly. Uncommongoods has developed a wide assortment of products that come from a diverse set of vendor partners, all with different needs. This session will focus on internal scaling best practices for timeline planning specific to inventory and cash flow, as well as how to work with external partners to negotiate pricing and minimize risk. Participants will review UG case studies and further discuss those strategies that are most relevant to their businesses.

We will have one or two additional sessions, details to be confirmed shortly.

Session 4: Integrating Inventory into Accounting Systems

Session 5: Process Flow Analysis
