Description

The Plainview Economic Development Authority will host an Energy Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 8th at Plainview City Hall, 241 West Broadway in Plainview, MN. This event is tailored to small businesses,ag producers and farms. Presentations will be:

Property Assessed Clean Energy Financing (PACE): Low Cost, Long Term Financing with no Up-Front Costs - Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing is available in Wabasha and surrounding counties to fund energy-related improvements to commercial, multi-family, and non-profit buildings. PACE financing eliminates high up-front costs, reduces dependence on credit, allows for comprehensive retrofits, allows program to reduce their costs, provides affordable long-term capital. The presenter is Peter Lindstrom, the Local Government Outreach Coordinator with the Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) at the University of Minnesota’s Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships and Extension.

Renewable Energy for Greater Minnesota - Information will be shared about options and financing strategies for renewable energy applications for commercial businesses and ag producers. This includes information about the USDA Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency grants. The presenter is Fritz Ebinger, Rural Energy Development Program Manager for the University of Minnesota's Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships and Extension.

Retiree Environmental Technical Assistance Program (RETAP) Free Energy Audits - Minnesota's Retiree Environmental Technical Assistance Program (RETAP) draws on the skills of retired engineers, scientists, managers, planners, and other professionals who have experience in numerous fields ranging from lighting to HVAC and engineering to stormwater management. RETAP provides free on-site facility assessments for businesses and institutions with the goal of preventing air and water pollution, reducing waste, and improving energy efficiency. The assessment can reveal energy efficiency upgrades that can form the basis of a PACE loan. The presenter is Chris Meyer, the Southeast CERT Coordinator for the University of Minnesota’s Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships.

Investing in Solar Energy, Financial Realities of OnSite Solar in the Peoples Cooperative Service Area – This presentation will explain how the utility billing structure impacts site requirements and system sizing and the financial realities of the grid access fee on system design, while defining when an investment in onsite solar will create a reasonable return on investment. Charts, graphs and real life experience will be presented. The presenter is Chris Gamer, who started his career in Renewable Energy in 2001 as an installer, expanding his efforts into the sales and design aspects of solar and wind energy in 2002. While continuing his work in the renewable energy field, Chris joined the team of Common Sense Energy in 2014 with 17 plus years of industry experience. Common Sense Energy staff has over twenty-five years of collective experience in solar and renewable energy system design, installation, and maintenance as well as an associate contract relationship with an energy efficiency professional with forty plus years of helping building owners with energy audits and programs to reduce energy use.

The Basics of Reducing Energy ConsumptionRepresentatives of People’s Energy Cooperative will cover energy efficiency services they offer, as well as topics relating to how we use energy and how to get started with your conservation efforts.
