Places of DC Photo Competition

DC is simultaneously one of the most iconic and most under-represented urban landscapes in the country. We invite you to yes, turn your lens to the monuments and things that make Washington recognizable to the world but also to go exploring: the secret trails, the alleys, the street art, the diversity of our neighborhoods - they are all a perfect opportunity for creating a visual snapshot of our city in 2016.

Contest Judges

Nicole Crowder : Senior Features Editor The Washington Post

Nicole is the Senior Features Editor for the Washington Post in D.C., where she assigns and manages the visuals for the Weekend, Sunday, Arts, Travel and Style sections. Prior to the position, Nicole served as the Photo Editor for The Washington Post's photo blog In Sight, editing and curating narrative photo stories from photojournalists around the world. Before her time at The Post, Nicole served as the Assistant Photo Editor for AARP Media. She has judged CGAP's 2015 Photo Contest, and this year serves as a judge for PDN's Photo Annual 2016.

In addition to photo editing and photography, Nicole also works as an independent upholsterer in Washington, designing one-of-a-kind custom furniture collections for hotels and design clients. 

Diane Rice : Director of Photography, Washingtonian

Diane Rice began her Journalism career in newspapers in 2001 after studying graphic design and photography at Long Island University, and has worked on the design staffs at Spa, Destination Weddings & Honeymoons, Parenting, Caribbean Travel + Life, and Florida Travel + Life magazines. In her current role as photography director for Washingtonian she is responsible for the production, direction and editing of images for the flagship magazine, as well as its many ancillary publications. She has been a judge and portfolio reviewer for NYPA (New York Press Association), PDN, Rangefinder, American Photo, WPOW (Woman Photojournalists of Washington) and the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC.


Instructions on how to submit images will be sent with the order confirmation.

Images created via any form of photography will be accepted for consideration (film, digital, mobile phone, and alternatives processes), but must be submitted electronically.

FotoWeek DC, a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, is committed to raising awareness of the power of photography everywhere, in all its forms.

The winners will be announced in the first week of June 2016. The winning images, favorites, and honorable mentions from each of the categories will be shown online and exhibited during the dedicated W Hotel DC Faces & DC Places exhibit and during FotoWeek 2016 at the Former Spanish Ambassador's Residence.
