PiWORKS seminar - Dr. Maria Bruna (University of Cambridge)
Event Information
About this event
Our PiWORKS speaker for April is Dr Maria Bruna, Royal Society University Research Fellow, Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge.
The talk will take place from 1-2pm British Summer Time.
Title: Continuum models of stochastic systems of interacting particles
Abstract: I will discuss stochastic systems of interacting particles. These models are motivated by the study of many-particle systems in biology or industrial applications, where it is crucial to account for the finite size of particles. I will explain how these interactions can be included in the models and different methods to derive continuum PDE descriptions. In the second part of the talk, I will show how these methods can be used in two applications.
Sign up now to receive the Zoom details! The target audience for the talks are 3rd/4th year undergraduate and MSc students, but PhD students or academic staff are very welcome to attend.
The aim of our monthly PiWORKS (Piscopia Initiative – Women and Other Researchers Keynote Series) seminar is threefold; we want to
1. Showcase the work of women and non-binary mathematics researchers.
2. Provide a taste of different areas of mathematics research to undergraduate and MSc students.
3. Build an UK-wide community of women and non-binary researchers and mathematics students.
The Piscopia Initiative (piscopia.co.uk) is a student-led outreach scheme that aims to encourage women and non-binary students to pursue a PhD. Join our mailing list to stay updated on all our events: https://bit.ly/3lAAReV
