Welcome to our in-person event where you can get certified in pistol mounted optics at the Public Safety Institute!


WHAT WILL YOU LEARN:

Upon successful completion of this Pistol Mounted OPTICS Certification Course, you will be able to:

  • Review the types of red dots and mounting options.
  • How to Properly Sight In (zero)
  • Refine reticle (red dots) Acquisition on Presentation
  • How do I acquire the Red Dot?
  • How do I present the pistol with the Red Dot?
  • Understand advantages and limitations of a Pistol Mounted Optics
  • Understand holdover/offset and apply to drills
  • Review and apply downed optic drills
  • Improve single handed shooting techniques with the Optics
  • Discuss multiple shot considerations with the Optics
  • Experience the benefits for shooting on the move with the Optics
  • Practice multiple target engagement techniques

LIVE-FIRE drill with the Optics:

  • Verify and or Adjust Optics (zero)
  • Acquire Red Dot on Target/Present and fire
  • Understand Parallax and how to apply it during live fire (meaning, Red Dot does not to be centered on glass to be effective)
  • Downed Optics Drills: sights fill up with water, snow, mud, or debris
  • Alternative firing techniques with downed optics: Top of the shroud as a reference, Edge of Slide as a reference



EQUIPMENT LIST

  • Handgun, major caliber 9mm, 357 SIG, 40 S&W, 45 ACP with Red Dot Mounted
    • Semi-auto center fire pistols only – revolvers or .22 caliber pistols are not allowed
  • Holster – duty or OWB
  • Magazine pouch
  • 3 magazines
  • Optic adjustment tools
  • Spare batteries for Optics with its tools
  • Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide
  • Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning
  • NO open toed shoes, NO shorts, or sweatpants/leggings
  • Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
  • Recommend electronic hearing protection

AMMO

  • Estimated round count: 200 rounds pistol
  • No steel cased, No steel core, NO aluminum case or Exposed lead ammo
  • Ammunition may be purchased at the range
