Description

Join Philip Burton ,aka Pip The Poet, for a half hour of poetry for children and families

Philip’s poems are for the sheer fun of saying aloud, imagining, dancing-to, clapping-to, drawing pictures about or even sitting down for a quiet read before bedtime.

Philip Burton has been a Primary school head teacher in Lancashire and is known to children as “Pip The Poet”. Twelve of his poems for children have been published in major anthologies in the last few years.

Philip has visited over one hundred schools and libraries in the last few years, as a writer in education, providing poetry days for children 4–14, and has built a reputation for providing enjoyable and educational performances and workshops.. He has published a poetry collection for children in which the poems are arranged by age so that a child can read a poem each month whilst growing up! The collection is titled The Treasure Shop and will be available.

In the last twenty years I have been very widely published in literary magazines – three hundred and sixty three of my poems in total – including editions of PN Review and Stand, as well as in adult anthologies and in ten anthologies for children. I have won many awards, including First prizes in the Teignmouth,The Barn Owl Trust, the Lancaster Litfest, the Sentinel, and also the Star Magazine humorous poetry competition. Indigo Dreams published a collection of thirty of my recent poems in August 2017.

Age suitability: children and families.
