PINKS Documentaries NYC: Four days of New films from Korea - and Directors Talks
For the first time in New York, a presentation of documentary films from Korea addressing issues rarely seen by American audiences. Films on LGBTQ and Workers' struggles, a feminist fashion designer and the tragedy of state violence against citizens over gentrification, these films represent the range of struggles that Koreans have been facing, and give some insight into a society that is currently wrestling with a presidential impeachment, bribery scandals, neoliberal labor policies, turmoil over U.S.military actions and a still tense situation with the northern half of the peninsula. Seven of the eight films presented are from PINKS: Solidarity for Sexually Minor Cultures and Human Rights! (http://pinks.or.kr/) an activist collective in Korea. Bring ID and your RSVP.

Nora Noh by Sung hee KIM
Nora Noh, the fashion designer, who at one point dominated the scene of Korean women’s fashion and culture, is forced to contend with a changing society. Her life represents the conflict of women who came to age between 1950-70 -with the legacies of the Korean war, torn between the lure of western culture and traditions required by Korean society. This eighty-five year old fashion designer, Nora Noh contends with a new young stylist Suh Eun-young in this documentary.
