Pine-Needle Basket Weaving
Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Spend the day with expert basket weaver Charles Kennard in the beautiful replicated Coast Miwok village located in Point Reyes National Seashore. We will begin the day by using locally gathered pine needles and palm or yucca to start coiled baskets in shapes of your choosing. Learn how to introduce decorative elements by splitting and doubling stitches. Students can also choose rush (Juncos) for the foundation. Similar baskets have long traditions in southern California and rural South Carolina. Join Charles to learn from a basket-weaving expert or improve upon your existing talents in this ancient and fun skill. All levels welcome.
