Event description

Description

This workshop is intended for Community Members and Educators. Please join us for a Pine Needle Basket Workshop supported by The First Peoples' Cultural Council on January 25th, 2020 from 10am - 2pm at the Beecher Bay Daycare. This workshop will be led by Samantha Harvey and Emma Banner.

This workshop re-introduces the skill of pine needle (cedar root & bog rush) basketry. There are three basic basketry techniques used by Coast Salish weavers: coiling, twining and plaiting. We will be learning the coiling method used to make cedar root baskets as well as plaiting of reeds. Pine needs will be used in lieu of cedar root due to their availability.

Lunch will be served. The session will open at 10:15 with Territorial Acknowledgement and words from community. Tea and Coffee will be available. Please feel free to bring baskets, books or your own knowledge for show and share with other participants in this collaborative workshop. Children are welcome to come along with their family member.
