Event description

Description

Celebrate National Public Lands Day by joining Los Padres ForestWatch and Runners for Public Lands for a weekend of camping, environmental education, and trail running in one of the most spectacular areas of the Los Padres National Forest: Pine Mountain. Learn about the native fauna and flora of this high elevation area just north of Ojai as well as the issues affecting the national forest and other public lands in the region. Between making new friends, naturalist-led hikes, camping, and stargazing with an astrophysicist will be some exciting trail runs around the mountain.

Schedule:

Friday

  • Optional camping starting at 6:30 PM

Saturday

  • Early morning trail run for Friday night campers
  • Arrive and set up camp between 10 and 11 AM
  • Lunch
  • Naturalist-led hike
  • Trail run
  • Dinner (bring your own food) and social time
  • Fireside chat about conservation issues
  • New moon stargazing led by UCSB astrophysicist

Sunday

  • Early morning trail run
  • Pack up and head out between 9 and 10 AM

This is a FREE event, but we are appreciative of suggested $15 donations to cover campground reservation costs. You will be responsible for your own food and gear, but some beer and snacks will be provided.

Space is very limited, especially with parking and tents. We will only have room for a maximum of 40 people each night. Please try to carpool and double up (or more) in tents.

Please contact Vic Thasiah by emailing vic@runnersforpubliclands.org with any questions.
