Event description

Description

AERONAUT, in partnership with Boston public broadcaster WGBH and 99.5 WCRB, Classical Radio Boston, is thrilled to invite you to the 5th installment of the pindrop sessions!

This month presents a truly rare opportunity to hear one of the world’s great classical musicians in an intimate setting. Joshua Rifkin‘s 1970s Nonesuch recordings of the ragtime piano works of Scott Joplin almost singlehandedly spearheaded a revival of ragtime music, that quintessential sound that helped launch America into the modern era. Renowned as one of the world’s experts on the music of J.S. Bach and Josquin Desprez, Rifkin’s career as conductor, performer, and professor at Boston University is practically unprecedented in the world of American music. His eclectic program, performed on a beautiful piano (courtesy of East Cambridge Piano), will focus on the exhilarating and elegant music of Scott Joplin and Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth, and will be paired with silent film projections and special guests from The Tango Society of Boston (our Somerville neighbors!) who will provide a bit of live tango dancing. This evening’s concert marks the first time Joshua Rifkin has played this music in a public space in greater Boston.

#pindropsessions

pindrop is...

a new, ticketed performance series (early bird entry is only ten bucks which supports the artists!) taking place the first Sunday night of every month at the AERONAUT taproom in Somerville, shining light on the ridiculous pleasure of listening, featuring a soft focus on classical music. No stodginess. No competing sound. Shared silence. And sweet musical goodness in our steel-tanked fermentation garden. Plus a sweet after-party hang with the musicians!

The pindrop sessions are co-hosted by 99.5 WCRB’s delightful weekday afternoon host, our dear friend Mr. Chris Voss!

Our last four events sold out quickly! So far we've featured Beethoven played by a full symphony orchestra, music with viols and fiddles, Stravinsky with orchestra, actors and dance, and a NYC-style cabaret event. The Oct. 1 debut earned this photo wrap from Scout Somerville and this great review from the Boston Musical Intelligencer, plus this recent Boston Globe article! (Thx friends!)
