Welcome to the Pikes Peak Foodshed Forum – and a statewide Farm to Institution conversation!

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is partnering with LiveWell Colorado and Rocky Mountain Farmers Union to host the Pikes Peak Foodshed Forum. This year’s focus is Farm to Institution, and the forum will be packed with learning sessions and discussions on increasing your work growing or procuring food locally – with stakeholders from across the state. Please see attached flyer and please share this any partners you think would actively contribute and benefit from this conversation!

Whether you produce food or procure it (or support those who do!), this event is for you. Join other people coming from all over Colorado. There will be rich learning experiences, opportunities to network, plus discussions on advocating together for Colorado policies to support Farm to Institution efforts. By the end, you will have new potential partners, innovative best practices, and actionable next steps to grow your farm to institution work and others across Colorado.

The purpose of the foodshed forum is to build the relationships needed to regenerate the local food economy in the state of Colorado. This year, the primary forum theme is “Farm to Institution”, which recognizes the ability and opportunity of institutions to positively impact our local food system. With the pressure of climate change, the need for better nutrition, and concern for mental well-being, we have an urgent need to promote and strengthen our connections to agriculture. The concept of Farm to Institution is a sensible starting point for the regeneration of an ethical local food system. It recognizes the need to keep small to medium-sized farms in business and recognizes the immense benefit the farming community brings to the citizens of our region. Their knowledge of the land shared history, and the ability to adapt to the needs of the local community, make these farmers indispensable.
