Event description

The theme is Minecraft. For this tech social, there will be three areas:

  1. Parents and Other Noobs,

  2. Modders

  3. Players.

We will dive right in with pizza and game time. The fee is $5 (which covers equipment and refreshments) and you can of course donate more to support this effort! As usual, you are welcome to bring any games and maker activities - you do not have to stick with the theme.

If you are interested in participating in Minecraft, here are some key tips:

  1. We urge you to bring your own laptop computer set up and ready to go.

  2. If you already have a Minecraft account, you may join a Piedmont Server which has been generously shared for this event: Zorrocraft. By joining the server, you agree to these rules. The server is open NOW, so you may join in and play before the Tech Social!

  3. If you do not have a Minecraft account, you will need to get a Minecraft account here and download the app to your computer, or prepare to play for an hour at the event with a demo account.

  4. We will have wifi available, but limited power outlets, so try to charge up ahead of time.

  5. Note: iPad users will not be able to share this server, but can still play solo!

For parents, the topics covered will include:

  1. How to support your child’s Minecraft play

  2. Minecraft servers: are they safe for kids?

  3. Minecraft Mods 101. (The modding group will be separately working on mods, for slightly more advanced users.)

Please contact the organizers with questions. Registration in advance is strongly advised to allow for us to order enough food!

Piedmont Tech Social is sponsored by Piedmont Makers, a non-profit group dedicated to support STEAM education in the district.

8:00pm: Cookie break!

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

No, this is for all ages. This is not a drop-off event - please have an adult loosely associated with any attendee under the age of 13..

What is the meal going to be?

Dinner will be pizza from Lanesplitter, with water and milk also provided. If you want to bring your own water bottle, so much the better. There will be a cookie break during the self-organizing pod session.

Where can I contact the organizers with any questions?

You can email the organizers at techsocial@piedmontmakers.org. Also consider joining the Piedmont Makers Facebook group!

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

As long as you pre-register before 3p the day of the event, there is no need. If you register later, please consider printing your ticket or having a copy on your phone..

What is the refund policy?

We understand that plans change, particularly with families! However, the majority of our costs are sunk immediately (facility and equipment rental), so while we are happy to refund your fee up to 24 hrs in advance of the event, please consider making it a donation instead.
