March 18: Evaluation of Carcass Quality in Live Cattle, Speaker: Dr. Ty Lawrence
How do you determine when cattle are finished? What affects their carcass quality and thus their yield grade? How can you use visual evaluation to estimate what is under the hide as it pertains to carcass quality?
March 25: Warm-Season Forage Options & Research Update, Speaker: Dr. Deidre Harmon
Summer annual forages such as millets, forage sorghum, sorghum x sudangrass hybrids and crabgrass are great alternatives for beef cattle producers who are looking to renovate pasture land, increase forage quality and yield, or simply fill the “summer slump” gap in their grazing system. This session will take a dive into agronomic practices, varieties, and grazing and harvesting management of summer annuals and will include an update on the crabgrass research in North Carolina.
