Event description
Join us for an evening of exploring our experiences through writing and the Japanese art of Kintsugi, led by Tamsin Clement and Emily Bagley

About this Event

The Rape Recovery Center has partnered with Tamsin Clement and Emily Bagley to provide an evening of processing, self expression, reflection, and healing through the art of Kintsugi. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold or silver lacquer . This method emphasizes the breakage as a unique and important part of an object's history rather than something to hide or throw away. Similarly, we are not worth any less because of our past experiences, struggles, or traumas.

For the first portion of the evening, Provo writer Tamsin Clement will guide participants through writing activities that explore our theme: repurposing the pieces of the past to create a new wholeness. Participants can share their writing and have a brief discussion, but sharing your work is not required. After the writing portion, participants will have the opportunity to create their own Kintsugi piece, led by Emily Bagley.

Supplies will be provided. However, if there is a specific journal you'd like to bring for the writing portion of the evening, and/or a specific ceramic piece you would like to use for your Kintsugi project, participants are more than welcome to bring their own.

The Schedule for the evening is as follows:

5:00 - 5:15: Introduction

5:15 - 6:30pm: Writing activities led by Tamsin Clement

6:30pm - 8:30pm: Kintsugi activity led by Emily Bagley

If you plan on attending, make sure to RSVP to secure your spot and supplies for the event. Additionally, if you have any questions or need more information, contact Tamsin.clement@gmail.com or LeeBagel7@gmail.com. Hope to see you there!
