"Picking to Picnic!" - Food Circularity for Tastier Meals!
About this event
A one of a kind farming workshop experience brought to you by Little Green Chef x Fortitude Culina.
How can you grow tastier ingredients for your meals? Unlock the urban farmer in you when you join us on Saturday, 25 June! A perfect group activity to learn what it takes to grow healthy, vibrant vegetables you can incorporate into your home-cooked food.
What is Food Circularity?
Why throw away organic food waste when it can be used to grow more tasty food? Food circularity is the philosophy of reducing food waste by turning it into natural fertiliser via eco-friendly composting methods and using the output to enrich the soil. This not only reuses food that would otherwise go to landfills, but it also makes for healthier vegetables we can eat!
A Weekend with Family, Friends, or a Date!
Start the day with a tour of the quiet, rustic farm located at the back of Methodist Girl’s School, lovingly maintained by Little Green Chef. Jump into hands-on activities where you’ll learn about different composting techniques, build a working compost, plant new vegetables with our planting kit, and hand-pick ingredients you can clean and eat on the spot!
After your morning of hard work, tuck in to our lunch set prepared by Fortitude Culina ("7 Herb Rice" Nasi Ulam with Tempeh Rendang, and Blue Pea Lemonade). Go home and put your newfound gardening knowledge into practice as you take home a potted plant of your choice (Wild Watercress, Chinese Violet, or Sweet Potato Leaves).
Lunch Bento by Fortitude Culina
- Signature “7 Herb Rice” Nasi Ulam, Tempeh Rendang & Homemade Pickled Vegetables
- Blue Pea Lemonade
Our Lunch set was planned with the idea of “Farm to Table”, where we intentionally incorporate local herbs and edible flowers into our menu. The idea behind “Farm to Table” is to show that the herbs and plants we grow can be used efficiently in daily cooking. For example, our Signature “7 Herb Rice” Nasi Ulam is made with 7 different herbs that can be locally found in Singapore (such as Laksa leaves and Lemongrass) and our drink uses Blue Pea, which is an edible flower.
