6th Annual Pickin' For Autism: An evening of Folk & Bluegrass benefiting Lionsgate Academy

About this Event

Lenz and Frenz

J Lenz, guitar picker from local old time bluegrass band, Pert Near Sandstone, brings his “frenz” along for one big campfire jam! Lenz and Frenz can be any combination of local musicians, covering lots of old favorites from traditional folk/bluegrass, to classic rock, or 90’s tunes. It’s sure to be a good ol’ foot stompin’ time!

Sans Souci Quartet

Sans Souci is known for its unique blend of bluegrass, folk rock and innovation. The instruments are traditional, the voices authentic, and the arrangements are unique and refreshing.

Each member brings his own musical influences to the band: Eric Larson, the frontman on mandolin, has decade of stage performance experience and a background that spans folk revival to modern pop. Zach Gusa, initially a guitar and harmonica troubador, now also channels the phrasings of Doc Watson and Tony Rice as the vocal harmonist of the group. Adam Lutz, in the back with the bass, has the most diverse background of the group, recently transitioning without compromise from electronic funk to acoustic folk. Coming together, these boys have found common inspiration from late 70's bluegrass bands such as Old and in the Way, and current bands like the Old Crow Medicine Show.

In 2014, they released their third full-length album, "On the Line," with eleven original tunes. Though their name is playful, it's clear these boys care a great deal about their craft, and we look forward to more to come!

"Sans Souci attributes their success to the strong acoustic music scene in the Twin Cities area. The group has established a niche somewhere between the bluegrass and Americana/roots music scenes in this region, playing traditional instruments while pushing the traditional music envelope." --Inside Bluegrass

"...arpeggiated mayhem..." --City Pages

The Common Ground Company

The band was created on the plains of South Dakota with sweethearts Steph Snow and Jorgen Wadkins. Since moving to Minneapolis in 2015, they've met new friends and bandmates. The band has evolved over the years, continuing to push the boundaries of what they can create. Nowadays they are a string band playing and blending bluegrass, Americana, and rock, while touching on everything in between. Led by Steph's powerful vocals and piano, Jorgen (guitar), Pete Whitemen (bass), Zach Tauer (banjo), and Jake Rohde (mandolin) blend their acoustic instruments to create a driving, dynamic, and warm soundscape. Their music will have you dancing and singing along, while keeping you on your toes.

They have steadily toured around the Midwest and Front Range since 2016, including a 10-day run in 2018. Their first release, For Good This Time, occurred in 2017. They are set to release another album in early 2019. The band has graced the stage with bands such as The Gin Blossoms, Old Salt Union, The Big Wu, and The Kitchen Dwellers.
