Description

It’s the 3 most exciting nights of the year in central IL. Monticello becomes the “rodeo & family fun” capital on Thursday, Friday & Saturday, June 21-22-23, 2018 at 7PM daily. It’s the 64th year that the Piatt Co Trail Blazers host 3 huge action-packed performances of pro rodeo excitement. You’ll witness current and former World Champions, most of the prestigious Top 15 in the nation and the hottest contenders on today’s rodeo trail. They will be competing for thousands of dollars in prize money plus Rick Ridings Bonus Bucks and world championship points. The spectacular bucking livestock of the Big Hat Rodeo Co will be stampeding into Monticello, including many award-winning animals like “Mafia Witch”, the 2016 World Champion Bareback Horse. “Thriller”, a 1600-pound bull, with current World Champion Corey Bailey aboard, who won a go-round at the “Rodeo of Champions”, the International Finals Rodeo.

Eight exciting rodeo events will be featured. They are Bareback Riding (rodeo’s most physically demanding event”), Steer Wrestling (rodeo’s he-man event”), Cowgirls Breakaway Roping (rodeo’s fastest event), Team Roping (rodeo’s two-man team event”), Saddle Bronc Riding (rodeo’s classic event”), Tie Down Roping (rodeo’s precision event”), Cowgirls Barrel Racing (rodeo’s ladies-only event) and BULL RIDING (rodeo’s most dangerous & most popular event).

In between each of these highly competitive events you’ll meet some of the most talented entertainers in the business including 9 time “Rodeo Clown of the Year”, Dusty Myers from Jumpertown, MS who is returning to the Trail Blazers Rodeo by popular demand. He will be joined by announcer Adam Gibbs of Holly Pond, AL who brings a huge amount of rodeo knowledge and a knack for building an instant rapport with rodeo spectators of all ages. Shane Esco of Prattville, AL, one of the best bullfighters in the business, will be joining the Big Hat Rodeo crew at Monticello for the first time and he will thrill audience members and more importantly, play the role of cowboy lifesaver for the bull riders.

In 2018 you’ll also get to enjoy a 2nd appearance by the Trail Blazers Queen’s Drill Team who will be presenting our traditional patriotic opening and then returning later in the program with another great performance. Thursday night is Cancer Awareness Night, join us in supporting this marvelous cause. A portion of Thursday’s proceeds will go to Kirby Hospital Cancer Care packages. Friday night is Queen Coronation Night when an amazing young lady by the name of Brittany Miller will turn over her crown to a very lucky and deserving new Queen. Saturday night is our “Championship Round” where the winners of this year’s rodeo will receive their highly coveted custom designed belt buckles.

The Piatt Co Trail Blazers have been an integral part of Monticello, Piatt Co and the surrounding area since 1954 with several of their members coming from 4th and 5th generation member families. Along with a beautiful outdoor arena, permanent bucking chutes, pens, grandstand the facility boasts a large clubhouse available for rentals for everything from meetings to weddings, family reunions and all kinds of horse related activities.

Other fun, family-friendly activities include the Rodeo parade at 10 AM Saturday morning in downtown Monticello where Trail Blazers, cowboys and cowgirls and rodeo personnel are there to meet and greet their fans. Immediately following the parade, bring your family to our “Kids & Clowns” lunch, hosted by Rick Ridings Ford. Rick Ridings Ford is the presenting sponsor of the rodeo and his support and generosity have helped the Rodeo continue to grow and prosper. Mr. Ridings & his entire team greet kids of all ages, have many options of fun games for everyone, horseback rides, stagecoach rides, a great lunch and the perfect opportunity to meet Dusty Myers, Adam Gibbs, Shane Esco, Brittany Miller & the new rodeo queen as well as many of the Trail Blazers members who are among Monticello’s most active volunteers.

You certainly don’t want to miss the Mutton Bustin’ and Knockerball contests during the rodeo and this year’s “Top Gun” winner will be introduced as well. There’s a variety of great food and drink concessions available so come early. Gates open at 5PM.
