Event description

Description

As part of the closing ceremony of the European Conference 2018, the Fletcher European Affairs Society is delighted to host virtuoso Simon Ghraichy for a piano recital.

The piano recital will be built on the program of Simon’s 2015 concert at Carnegie Hall “Liszt’s and the Americas”, confronting the 19th European composer’s most famous works to his American counterparts such as Villa Lobos, Gershwin, Godowsky and Ernesto Lecuona. The concert is programmed as a tale reminding Liszt’s intellectual and artistic bounds with the American continent, and a transatlantic duel of brilliant composers: mirroring the goal of the Fletcher-Harvard European Conference.

Simon Ghraichy, a young French pianist of Lebanese and Mexican heritage, grew up between Canada, Lebanon and Mexico before settling in Paris where he entered the Conservatoire de Paris. His career took an upward turn in 2010 when Wall Street Journal’s cultural critic Robert Hughes glowingly reviewed his interpretation of Liszt’s Remminiscences de Don Juan. Simon has played among the most prestigious concert halls over the globe, as a soloist in the Théatre des Champs Élysées in Paris, the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, the Berlin Philharmonic, Paris Philharmonic and with orchestras including the American Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, NYC, Etc. In 2016, Simon signed with classical music label Deutsche Grammophon which produced his album “Heritages” in 2017.
