Description

Pianist, Hyun-Ju Sung (D.M.A.) performs a program featuring works by F. Chopin (Berceuse Op.57, Etude Op.12, No.12, Etude Op.25, No.11, and Polonaise-Fantasie Op.61) and F.Liszt (Piano Sonata in B minor S.178). Also, this program features a trumpet duo performing B. Evans (Tenderly and Waltz For Debby) with Trumepter, Joe Kim (D.M.A.).


Korean born pianist, Dr. Hyun-Ju Sung received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea. In the United States, she received her second Master’s degree from the prestigious Mannes College of Music in New York City. She started her D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) study at The Ohio State University, where she was admitted as a recipient of Special Talented Student Award. She later transferred to Arizona State University on a full scholarship and received her D.M.A. degree in 2009.

Dr. Sung is a passionate classical pianist who has appeared at various venues including Kerr Cultural Center, Katzin Concert Hall, Chopin Hall, Seoul Arts Center, Weigel Hall, Hughes Hall, Mannes Concert Hall, Goldmark Hall, Gyeonggi Arts Center, Buam Art hall. After she moved to the Bay Area in 2009, she gave three solo piano recitals at Santa Clara University – Recital Hall in October 2012, Tateuchi Hall in October 2014 and Finn Center in October 2016. She has performed numerous duo ensembles and chamber concerts in Korea and the U.S.

Dr. Sung is also very successful and enthusiastic as a piano teacher. she was awarded outstanding music teacher diploma of recognition from US International Music Foundation in 2017 and 2018. Her students have successfully appeared at various music festivals and won major competitions such as San Francisco Chopin Competition, MTNA Piano Concerto Competition, US International Music Competition, MTAC Piano Concerto Competition, MTAC State Piano Solo Competition, ECYS Concerto Competition, Marilyn Mindell Competition, US New Star Etude Competition, American Protege International Competition, US Open Music Competition, Sillicon Valley Youth Music Competition, KAMSA Competition, California State Performing Arts competition, Korea Times Music Competition.

She serves as an adjudicator for California State Performing Arts competition since 2014 and invited as an adjudicator for the 35th California State Youth Accolades Competition in 2015. Currently, she runs a private studio in San Jose, CA. She is an active member of the Music Teachers' Association of California and the Music Teachers National Association.
