Physical Therapy Management of the Post-Concussion/ Headache Patient

Presented by: NeuroSport Physical Therapy Team in Association with Michigan Medicine PM&R Physical Therapy

This course is being evaluated for 13 hours of Michigan Continuing Education Credits for Physical Therapists

Introduction:

This is the 3rd concussion course held here at Michigan Medicine. This course will present extensive lab presentation with an emphasis on hands-on practice accompanied by didactic lecture At the end of the course participants will be expected to pass short written quizzes and demonstrate basic practical/ manual competencies related to the learning objectives.


Who should Attend: Physical Therapists

Learning Objectives:

This course is designed to provide physical therapists with clinical skills to evaluate and treat the post-concussion headache patient in these specific areas:

  • Assessment and treatment of vestibular dysfunction including VOMS

  • Balance screening and treatment with focus on BESS and CTSIB

  • Core, scapular & cervical strength and endurance testing and retraining

  • Influence of Bio-Psycho-Social Aspects of Concussion Recovery

  • Assessment and treatment of cervical, thoracic dysfunction impacting headache

  • Exertion testing and progression including pediatric specific protocols

  • Return to play considerations

  • Integration/ utilization of social work services for this population

Fees:

  • Tuition is $350 individual rate

  • Group tuition is not available at this seminar.

Same day Registration if available: $500.00 (cash/Check only, and is based on seat availability)

About the Instructors:

Instructors for this course are all actively engaged in treating post-concussion individuals through the University of Michigan’s NeuroSport program, as well as headache and post-concussion patients in a variety of outpatient settings. They all have advanced training and experience in various aspects of manual therapy, vestibular assessment and treatment and training/ return to play aspects of returning this population to normal activities, academic pursuits and to their individual sports.

11:30 am to 12:30pm LUNCH On Own

12:30 pm to 2:45pm Upper Quarter Strength and Endurance

3:00 pm to 4:30 pm Bio-Psycho-Social Aspects of Concussion Recovery

11:15 am to 12:30 pm Exertion Testing: Guidelines & Considerations

12:30 pm to 1:00 pm Bring Lunch/working lunch

1:00 pm to 1:30 pm Integration of Social Work

1:30 pm to 2:15 pm Case presentations

2:15 pm to 2:30pm Q and A/Wrap up


Parking is located at the front of the building. On Saturday, please park away from the building, as we will be having clinic for physicians. On the Sunday, any spot is acceptable. There is no cost to park in this lot, and there are plenty of spots available.
