There’s an art to defying the hand you’re dealt. Whether it’s a creative pursuit, a career change or coming up from humble beginnings it takes guts to go your own way. Join JP on a trip that addresses the challenges of starting from nothing and focusing a lot of wild energy into something constructive. You’ll learn how his pastime as a troublemaker led him to booking over 100 DIY shows in a backyard shed and introduced him to design. You’ll also find out how JP turned a passion project of fifteen years into a full-time design career. This one’s for the underdogs!
About JP Boneyard and the National Poster Retrospecticus
JP Boneyard is the producer of The National Poster Retrospecticus based in Austin, Texas. The NPR is an internationally touring show that celebrates the radness of printmaking and design. JP got his start causing trouble and setting up DIY shows in his hometown of Palmer, Massachusetts. Since 1998 he has helped set up over 300 art and music events across the US. 100 of these events took place in a makeshift venue in his mother’s backyard shed. After graduating from The Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2011, JP went on to do web design and front-end development work in Boston. His job doing nerd stuff on the web helped support his vice: setting up shows like The NPR on nights and weekends. In 2014 a solid position at The IBM Mobile Innovation Lab brought JP to Austin. After The NPR's best year yet, JP has recently made the jump to full time poster carny.
