OVERVIEW

PHIST (Phuket Hotels for Islands Sustaining Tourism) 2019 is an innovative event rallying the hotel industry and its stakeholders to discuss both environmental sustainability and social impact and governance.

This FREE-to-attend conference day will feature an exhibition area, showcasing over 60 sustainability products and services exhibitors, and offer attendees a mix of short expert panels and thematic discussions, covering topics including destination development, ocean health and impacts, hotel sustainability governance, community tourism, and global trends on sustainability. Speakers include a mix of industry experts from both local and international organizations.

There are 4 timings for the workshops

• Session 1: 10:00 am - 10:45 am

• Session Play: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Workshop A and B are repeated in both sessions 1 and 2.Choose only one workshop for each session. Play Session is targeted at children and youth.

Workshop A: Plastic Reduction – Keeping the Momentum Going

The war with single-use plastic continues. Many company initiatives include removing plastic bags and straws, but the initiative will go further than just these measures. In the long run, businesses will have to change and innovate product-design models and find alternatives to their plastic materials.

Workshop B: The Hotel Green Champion

This workshop will be the first of its kind to bring together Sustainability Champions and Committees from different hotels and hotel companies to share best practices, discuss and work together to solve challenges and build camaraderie across global sustainability teams.

Workshop C: Hotels in Collaboration by Phuket Hotel Association

This interactive workshop shares some of the current eco projects and endeavors of the Phuket Hotel Association and facilitates a conversation in both the private sector and the hotel industry on how to make a significant reduction on our environmental impact.

This workshop will bring together hotel professionals in development, feasibility, asset management, owner relations, and owner representatives to learn about this topic of “sustainability” and how it can be discussed in their respective roles, without having to deal with tree huggers.

3 pm – 5 pm The Tribe has spoken – a PHIST Bump for the Planet

The tribe gathers for PHIST 2019 kick-off with drumming by United World College students. Join over 1,000 people to set a Guinness World Record for the most simultaneous fist bumps in one minute. Footage will be recorded by drones for a commitment to protecting the planet and sustaining island tourism.
