Exposure+ Workshops presents the first Photo Symposium Asia, a weekend symposium on Friday 19 to Sunday 21 May 2017 at The KL Journal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. This symposium provides a platform to address the current provisions of photography education in Malaysia and the region, both formal and informal channels, as well as outlining opportunities available to practitioners within the fine art and documentary genres.
We invite photography followers, enthusiasts, educators and students to join us and help shape the future of fine art and documentary photography practice in Malaysia and the region, through valued dialogue and feedback. Specially selected presenters will share their research and views on this most important topic : Education and Opportunities.
The event will include presentations by industry leaders - educators, festival directors, working photographers; projections; panel discussions and focus group dialogues.
Confirmed speakers include Takeki Sugiyama, Festival Director, Mt Rokko International Photo Festival and director of RAIEC; Laura El-Tantawy, documentary photographer, Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize nominee 2016; Eiffel Chong, fine art photographer and educator; Naoko Ohta, curator and event organiser, KLEE Inc Tokyo; Jessica Lim, Angkor Photo Festival, Asia Coordinator; Zhuang Wubin, photographer, educator and researcher; Daniel Boetker-Smith, Course Director, Photography Studies College, Melbourne and founder of Asia-Pacific Photobook Archive.
The Symposium will also request delegates to join Focus Groups led by special guests to engage in dialogue, feedback and recommendations on the topics discussed.
The event will begin with a reception dinner on Friday 19th, and will end with a table top Open Portfolio Viewing by selected delegates on Sunday, 21st. Entry include full symposium events, opening dinner, coffee breaks, light snacks, welcome pack.
