Event description

Description

Winter offers photographers all the ingredients that blend to create inspirational and memorable images, along with some of the challenges that help strengthen our photographic skills. This winter, explore deCordova’s Sculpture Park with your camera, opening your attention to the nuances of light and shadow, form and patterns, and the interplay of each moment and the season’s qualities with the uniqueness of landscape and sculptures in the park. Photographers of all levels are invited to ground their ability to convey moment and place and to share with one another the varied perspectives of that experience.

The workshop will be facilitated by Concord photographer and naturalist, Cherrie Corey, who has lived in the heart of Thoreau country for the last forty years and has chronicled the beauty, moods, and rhythms of its landscapes in thousands of photographic images over the past decade. Cherrie has led several programs at deCordova focusing on developing our presence and perceptions in the landscape. This workshop will build on a delightfully successful workshop held during a summer “monsoon” in August 2017 which opened participants to revelations of perception, challenges of the season, and a renewed sense of adventure with their cameras.

No photography experience necessary. Participants use their own photographic equipment of any type (smart phones, film or digital cameras are all ok).

About the Artist
Cherrie Corey’s interpretive perspectives have evolved through more than 25 years of professional museum experience in the Boston area, her formative role in the region’s environmental education initiatives, her passionate lifelong pursuits of natural history study and photography, and her Buddhist studies and practice.

More recently, some sixty of Cherrie’s photographs formed a visual framework for the Concord Museum’s “Early Spring – Thoreau and Climate Change” exhibition.
