Photo Walk: Bird Photography at Salton Sea - Free Event
Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM (PST)
Join UCLA Professor Hartmut Walter (ornithologist/ecologist) for a free Sunday all-day photo walk. We’ll drive around this large saline lake and stop at three or four locations. Bring your camera and a long lens (300 mm or longer reccomended) and capture exciting images of local and wintering birds. Prof. Walter will find the birds for you and show you how to approach them to get superb shots of feeding, swimming and flying birds such as snow geese, eared grebes, white pelicans, cranes, ducks, hawks, and possibly bald eagles. This is sport, fun and a never-ending photographic challenge. This free meet up event is an excellent introduction to nature photography.
Meet some 190 miles from L. A. on the eastern shore at the Salton Sea State Park at 10:30 AM on Sunday. Be ready to walk with your photo equipment. From there we’ll proceed to Niland (Lunch) and the U.S. National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. The return trip to L. A. will start around 4 PM from the US Border checkpoint on the SW side of the lake.
Registration is required. This Photo Walk is limited to 20 students. Limited to ten cars only. Use carpools if possible. Students are responsible for their own transportation.
