Event description

Description

Whether you’ve been walking with your refugee friends for years or you’ve never met a refugee and are curious about the many nations in our community, this training is for you!

Choose from two simultaneous tracks:

REFUGEE 101 TRAINING (for those new to refugee outreach) based on the training material of Tucson Refugee Ministry:

  • Grounding in the Bible: Understanding and reflecting God's heart for the foreigner
  • The refugee journey and factual overview of the US's refugee-resettlement program
  • Loss simulation
  • Guest speaker: Former refugee from the DR Congo resettled to the US
  • The Church's unique role here in Phoenix
  • Local volunteer opportunities
  • Cross-cultural basics and communication tips
  • Helping without hurting
  • Building bridges to people of other faiths

REFUGEE 201 NETWORKING AND RESOURCE FORUM (for current volunteers/practitioners):

Enjoy small-group discussions and networking with other experienced volunteers/practitioners and local experts from various sectors. This time, we will be taking "deep dives" into two pertinent topics: housing and jobs.

Come ready to ask questions, learn, share your own insights, and make new connections. Leave with more tools in your belt and the knowledge that you're part of a strong network of neighbors and professionals who love refugees!

Lunch will be provided by Chick-fil-A.

PLEASE NOTE: We don't want the $15 registration fee to prohibit anyone from participating. If this would be an obstacle for you, you may enter the promo code Welcome for a full waiver.
