Event description

Description

Durham is celebrating the 150th anniversary of our city’s founding and Phoenix Fest is a featured event site for this year-long celebration! Phoenix Fest also celebrates the cultural legacy of Durham’s Hayti community on historic Fayetteville Street in Durham, NC on Saturday, October 5, 2019, making the legacy of the Hayti community all the more meaningful in the context of our city’s history. Both events celebrate Durham’s history and diversity.

Durham is one of our state’s most diverse counties with a rich history of music, the arts and community spirit. Phoenix Fest provides an opportunity to experience African American culture by bringing the music to the people in a family-oriented atmosphere in the heart of Durham’s African American community --- free for all to enjoy. The festival is also an effective way to create positive associations, goodwill and name recognition for your business.

The festival, forecast to draw over 10,000 visitors, will kick off with a 9 am parade up Fayetteville Street showcasing marching bands, businesses and community groups from all over the state. From 11 am to 6 pm Durham’s best local musicians will take the stage while the Africana Vendor Market and Food Truck Rodeo will feature entrepreneurs with delicious food and amazing merchandise from all over North Carolina and the East Coast.

We invite your business or organization to participate as a sponsor, vendor or parade entrant and show your Bull City spirit. Black businesses in Hayti helped shape our city and Phoenix Fest is an opportunity to honor this legacy.
