We're pleased to announce a philosophy and AI workshop at the IDEA Centre in the University of Leeds. Talks will be in the fields of philosophy (ethics and mind), artificial intelligence, data ethics and related areas. There will be a range of UK based speakers and in-depth discussion of issues related to how data and artificial intelligence can be applied to real world challenges.
We want to facilitate integration of philosophical concerns and technical approaches to technology - so we welcome attendees from philosophy, computer science, or any other areas that have a perspective on the philosophical issues raised by AI.
Presentations will be 30 minutes long with 30 minutes of discussion. We want to encourage an open and interactive dialogue about issues that are raised during the presentations and other related worries.
This event is free to attend, but registration is required.
Confirmed Speakers:
Professor David Hogg, Professor of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Leeds & Alan Turing Fellow, Director of the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in AI for Medical Diagnosis and Care; and a Co-Director of the Northern Pathology Imaging Co-operative. David is a Fellow of the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI), a Distinguished Fellow of the British Machine Vision Association, a Fellow of the International Association for Pattern Recognition.
Professor Vincent C. Müller, Professor in Ethics of Technology , Philosophy and Ethics Group, Faculty of IS, Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e) & University Academic Fellow Interdisciplinary Ethics Applied Centre (IDEA) & Leeds Institute for Data Analytics, University of Leeds & Turing Fellow @ The Alan Turing Institute.
Professor John McDermid, Professor of Software Engineering and a member of the High Integrity Systems Engineering Group (HISE), University Research Theme Champion for Risk, Evidence and Decision-Making , Director, Lloyd’s Register Foundation Assuring Autonomy International Programme, University of York.
Dr. Paula Boddington, Senior Researcher in Philosophy at the New College of the Humanities. Founding editor of the journal AI and Ethics. Currently serving on two of the AI4People 2020 committees.
Dr. David Strohmaier, Research Associate in the Natural Language and Information Processing (NLIP) group at the University of Cambridge. Supported by the Institute for Automated Language Teaching and Assessment (ALTA).
Dr. Ioannis Votsis, Senior Lecturer, Department of Philosophy, The New School of the Humanities, Member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science at the London School of Economics & Assistant Director of the Düsseldorf Center for Logic and Philosophy of Science.
