A group of LGBT Philly people and their allies will show Philadelphia's solidarity with Orlando by marching in Orlando Gay Pride on Oct. 8th to honor the victims of the Pulse shooting.
The registration has been secured and paid for up to 200 people and one vehicle. There is a financial obligation to fly yourself to Orlando and cover lodging. Lodging wise, people are staying in places through AirBnB, with friends or hotels.
Once in Orlando, we will all work together to make signs reflcting our pride and one for each of the 49 victims. We will also need help decorating the vehicle.
Sunday, Oct. 9th is OUTFest - flight wise, if you intend on doing both Gay Pride and OUTFest, I suggest flying out on Thursday and returning Sunday by 12pm or so.
Once the group is large enough, we will have a meeting to all get to know each other and start planning out who wants to volunteer to do what!
In the end, we call it Gay Pride. A series of events that happen in cities celebrating being gay in a straight world. This celebration of life, love and liberty isn’t just about parades and partying; it’s about the gay community being visible and belonging to a community, a town, a city, a nation and the world. We march to spread hope that things will get better and in order to not forget our battles. Orlando was the biggest battle the LGBT community has survived in modern western history and it will be an honor to march alongside Orlando in their Gay Pride.
