Event description

Philanthropic Society Los Angeles (PSLA) was founded in 2011 by Rochelle Gores Fredston, a trustee of Children's Institute, Inc. (CII). PSLA makes a meaningful impact on thousands of children each year through support of local initiatives in under-served urban communities. In partnership with Children's Institute, Inc. PSLA raises funds and in-kind goods to serve the needs of at-risk youth affected by violence and trauma. Via nationally deployed programs that provide students with the tools needed to face their academic year and our financial commitmentsto vital community projects, we continuously help to break the cycle and barriers of poverty to help kids grow up and lead healthy productive lives.

PSLA has raised more than $10 million in goods and services for CII since its inception and fundraising continues to grow at a rapid rate. In PSLA's six years, the group has touched the lives of 100,000 children. Each year, PSLA votes for a specific CII program to support and directs all efforts to that program in need. In year's past, the group has underwritten CII's domestic violence emergency response program in partnership with the Los Angeles Police Department (Project ERIN) and CII's birth-to-5 foster care program. PSLA members have selected the development of CII's new campus in Watts as its current fundraising priority. The group has committed $2.5 million over five years and is well on its way toward meeting that goal.

PSLA has an active volunteer program that is customized to its members's interests and schedules. Programs include reading circles, sports, art classes, gardening and more. Volunteer activities are available to members and their friends nearly every week.
