November 17th: More Tech, More Talking: How Evolving Sex Tech Impacts Fidelity Agreements

Speaker: Ari Tickman, PsyD, MBA

Ari Tuckman, PsyD, MBA has given over 300 presentations across America and in eight countries and has earned a reputation for making complex information understandable and useful. He is a psychologist in private practice in West Chester, PA, specializing in sex therapy and ADHD.

Sex technology is evolving quickly and becoming increasingly available and widely used. Interactive sex toys now allow users to stimulate each other from thousands of miles away. Hyper-realistic 3D virtual reality porn can now synch with a sex toy, offering an extremely immersive experience. While this brings new excitement, it also has the potential to spark arguments and conflict over what constitutes fidelity. Clinicians and sexuality educators need to be ready to discuss how these new options fit into their clients’ sex lives and relationships. Thinking about and discussing sex tech and how it fits into their sexuality and relationship helps couples better define their fidelity agreement--and can push clinicians to clarify their own values in this area. What a couple ultimately decides may be less important than why. This interactive seminar will begin by discussing the many nuances of fidelity agreements, the purposes they serve, and how to help couples negotiate effective, adaptive, and sustainable agreements. We will then familiarize attendees with the current state of sex tech and how it can change the sexuality and fidelity landscape. The goal is to help attendees support individuals and couples to ask themselves and each other the right questions so that sex tech, if they use it, will be a positive addition to their sex lives.

OBJECTIVES- Participants will be able to:

1) Create a fidelity agreement that is both clear and adaptive.

2) Discuss how this new sex tech fits into their relationships and sex lives by incorporating it into an explicit fidelity agreement.
