Event description

Description

The Phi Beta Kappa Society, Boston Phi Beta Kappa Association, and Boston College's Institute for Liberal Arts Welcome Recent Phi Beta Kappa Inductees to:

In Media Res(t):Social Media Now, a timely panel discussion on social media and liberal arts featuring Phi Beta Kappa Secretary and CEO Fred Lawrence as well as leading communications and social media experts.

Though social media connects us in unprecedented ways, there is room for improvement. The panelists will choose two problems in social media which they will explore with the audience. Areas of discussion may be: the negative effects of social media such as the “downgrading of humanity” (Coulbry 2016); the challenges of protecting privacy; freedom of expression; mitigating false information, and other relevant topics.

We'll save time to meet and network with fellow Phi Beta Kappa members in the Boston area over refreshments following the panel.

About Phi Beta Kappa Key Connections Events

On September 5-8, Phi Beta Kappa will host its third annual Key Connections event series designed to welcome recent Phi Beta Kappa members in over 20 cities across the country. Hosted by Phi Beta Kappa alumni associations, these events will offer recently inducted members a chance to network with their peers and get to know other Phi Beta Kappa members in their community. Local associations provide an opportunity to expand professional connections, take advantage of cultural opportunities, learn about a wide array of topics in engaging and creative ways, and give back through scholarship programs and other activities. Learn more and see all participating cities at www.pbk.org/KeyConnections.
