Part of Pejepscot History Center's popular Summer Walking Tour Series. The Immigrants in St. John’s Cemetery, B. Desmarais and C. Leonard

About this event

The Immigrants in St. John’s Cemetery led by Barbara Desmarais & Cathy Leonard

By 1750, colonial English and Ulster Scot Protestants had overtaken the native Wabanaki; a century later the descendants of those colonists faced their own invasion—by Catholics from Europe and Canada. Join Barbara Desmarais and Catherine Leonard at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery for stories of Franco, Irish, and other immigrants. St. John’s Cemetery is adjacent to the Varney Cemetery and can be accessed from Pine Street, which dead ends near the cemetery entrance.

Parking is along Pine Street. Carpooling is encouraged as possible.

Participants meet at starting point; driving directions and parking information provided upon registration. Please check-in with tour leader at least 10 minutes prior to tour time.

Tours are limited to 20 unless otherwise noted. PHC maintains a waiting list for each tour in case of cancellations. Most tours are 75-90 minutes, though tours outside of downtown may go slightly longer. Please dress accordingly for the weather and wear sturdy shoes, sunblock, and/or bug spray as needed.

TICKET SALES END AT 3:30 THE DAY BEFORE THE TOUR. If a tour is sold out, you may add your information to the waitlist and we will contact you if a ticket becomes available.
