Program: Medication Safety and the Pharmacy Technician – 2.0 credit hours

Program learning objectives: Upon completion of this course the pharmacy technician should be able to

  • Define the term medical errors
  • Define the term medication errors and how it is reported
  • List the reasons for medication errors
  • Identify the FDA’s role in preventing errors
  • Classify the types and causes of errors
  • Outline how pharmacies, pharmacist, and technicians can prevent medication errors.

  • Discuss the purpose and reason for compounding prescriptions
  • Describe what is USP Chapter 795
  • List equipment and supplies and facility requirement used for non-sterile compounding
  • Explain how to prevent medication errors in compounding for pharmacy technicians
  • Prepare a product using a recipe and necessary supplies
