Description

The community pharmacist is a vital member of the treatment team to support the health and safety of the client or patient. This program explores what your pharmacist brings to the inter-professional team and how this collaboration can work to mitigate risk and treat substance use disorder. Common challenges and solutions to creating the community-clinical linkages and implementing Chapter 488 will be analyzed. A first person experience, a panel and case vignettes will be used to experience the value of working inter-professionally and the value of recovery.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Stephanie Nichols, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCPP, is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy at Husson University, an adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts, and a psychiatric and substance use disorder (SUD) pharmacist. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University at Buffalo and completed a post-graduate residency at Maine Medical Center. She is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and Psychiatric Pharmacist (BCPP). Dr. Nichols has over a decade of experience providing direct patient care and inter-professional teaching; and she has served as a preceptor for over 75 student and resident learners. She has won multiple awards for excellence in the areas of teaching, student precepting, and clinical practice. More here...

Kristen M. Sowada, RN, FNP Student, is a Registered Nurse, wife, and mother of three children. Kristen earned herundergraduate degree in Psychology from Saint Michael’s College and later went on to earnher Bachelor of Science in Nursing from New York University. Currently, Kristen is a Psychiatric Nurse, working closely with patients suffering from addiction. In her spare time, Kristen can be found speaking to health care professionals and students at various Universities throughout New England, regarding addiction among healthcare professionals. Kristen is currently accepted into the Family Nurse Practitioner program at St. Joseph’s College.

  • 5.5 contact hours pending approval by the Maine Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

  • 5.5 Category I contact hours for Psychologists are provided. CCSME is a pre-approved sponsor and provider of Professional Education Activities for Psychologists.
