1911 Kimball Pipe Organ
The Kimball Pipe Organ was built into the Mission Inn Music Room during 1909 - 1911. In 1930, the organ had a major restoration by the Kilgen Company of St. Louis. The Friends of the Mission Inn commissioned restorations in 2004 - 2006 and 2012.
The organ is registered in the Organ Historical Society Pipe Organ Database. Organ ID 28448
Mission Inn Hotel & Spa
The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa began as a quaint adobe boarding house in 1876, becoming a full-service hotel in the early 1900s. Opened by Frank Miller, it expanded in 1903 with over 200 guestrooms and the addition of the Mission Wing, built in Mission-Revival style while incorporating architectural features from more than 20 different California missions. Three more wings materialized as demand grew, including the Cloister, Spanish Wing and the Rotunda Wing, completed in 1931. Miller filled the hotel with valuable items from across the globe, including artwork, furniture and religious relics. Mission Inn still houses the oldest bell in Christendom, dating back to 1247. In 1992 Duane and Kelly Roberts purchased the Mission Inn.
Robert York
Pianist, Organist, Arranger, Composer, Vocal Coach, Musical Direction
Robert studied improvisational in Paris, France and has an extensive career in silent film accompaniment throughout southern California. He was house organist for over 20 years at the historic Orpheum theatre in Los Angeles.
He has performed in the past to such luminaries as President Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope, Red Buttons, Steve Allen, Tippi Hedren, Patti LaBelle, the 5th Dimension, Shirley Jones, and Ruta Lee.
