Event Details

Standardized Job Elements & Process Flow- (Overview / Exercise 2 hrs.)
Learn to establish a repeatable, predictable baseline for continuous improvement involving the operator in both the initial and ongoing improvements to achieve the highest levels of safety, quality and productivity through standardized work elements.

Risk Reduction (PFMEA) - (Deep Dive 4 hrs.)
Identify and reduce the risk of potential quality failure and Error proofing past quality failures. Ensure that potential failure modes have proper controls (prevention/detection) and they work properly. Learn-See-Do Exercises

Learning objectives

Statistical Process Control & EP (4 hrs), Measurement System Analysis (3 hrs), GD&T Geometric Dimensioning Tolerancing Basics Training (1 hour)

Understanding GD&T is the key to a strong measurement system and statistical process control plan.

Quality management systems have not significantly changed since 1941.Once you learn the fundamentals of SPC you will understand and know how to apply 6 sigma. Through a combination of instructor-led training and team exercises, you learn how SPC, MSA and GD&T can be applied to a manufacturing or non-manufacturing environment. The goal is to illustrate how these techniques can be incorporated into a system to provide for not only process improvement, but also product and system improvement.

Learn the industry-standard methodology for measuring and controlling quality during the manufacturing or non-manufacturing process. Quality data in the form of Product or Process measurements are obtained in real-time during manufacturing. This data is then plotted on a graph with pre-determined control limits. Control limits are determined by the capability of the process, whereas specification limits are determined by the client's needs.

Measurement System Analysis (3 hrs)

A critical but often overlooked step in the process has been to qualify the measurement system. No measurement system is without measurement error. If that error exceeds an acceptable level, the data cannot be acted upon reliably. For example: a Midwest building products manufacturer found that many important measurements of its most critical processes had error in excess of 200% of the process tolerance. Using this erroneous data, the process was often adjusted in the wrong direction - adding to instability rather than reducing variability. Learn how to use GD&T to establish a more effective data measurement plan.

GRR: Attribute & Variable

GD&T Geometric Dimensioning Tolerancing Basics Training (1 hour)

Understanding GD&T is the key to a strong measurement system and control plan.

Based on ASME Y14.5 - 2009 standard. Ordered and conceptually based tolerancing concepts are presented to help “see” how ASME Y14.5 is interpreted on engineering drawings of parts and assemblies. This ASME GD&T course is geared towards those who are required to interpret engineering drawings.

Emphasis is placed upon developing skills to clearly understand dimensional functions, datum (coordinate) locations, inspection requirements, and geometric and limit tolerance concepts.

The training is presented utilizing PowerPoint slides, physical models (parts), videos, white board detailing and lecture. Learners participate in individual and group exercises with trainer, distributed worksheets and other documents.

L. Louis Garrett

President: NEXUS GSN / Founder SDI, Louis graduated from Prairie View A & M University in 1983 (Summa Cum Laude) with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering Technology.Over 30+ years experience in lean manufacturing, quality controls, advanced quality program launch and training.

June 1984 L. Louis Garrett began his career with General Motors Corporation. He held various positions; Supervisor of Production, Statistical Process Control Coordinator, Reliability Engineer/Lean Manufacturing Administrator, General Supervisor of Production/Reliability, Quality Manager at Flint Metal Fabricating, and Quality Director of Pontiac East Truck Assembly during GM’s GMT800 launch (Chevolet Silverado & Serria). Louis later attended Central Michigan University for his Master of Science in Administration Degree.

Louis  was certified in 1988 by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Quality Engineer and Quality Auditor, from 1988 to 1999, Louis was trained by, Dorian & Peter Shainin, J. M. Juran, Merle Noates. He was trained on;  W. E. Deming, Taiichi Ohno, Shigeo Shingo,  Seiichi Nakajima,  Kaoru Ishikawa, Richard Levin, Genichi Taguchi and other techniques.

In June of 1999, after 15 successful years with GM, he formed GCC-Quality Engineering Services LLC with a focus on supplier development. Mr. Garrett has successfully worked with hundreds of Tier II automotive supplies and over sixty two automotive Tier I suppliers. He has serviced and coordinated hundreds of APQP program launches that impact General Motors Corp, Chrysler, Ford, BMW, and Mazda, covering the United States, Canada, EU, Germany, Africa, Mexico, South Korea and Brazil. In 2008 the economy and the automotive industry worldwide stalled and started to decline. Mr. Garrett said, he will never forget and will always keep it as a reminder, "nothing is always".

In February of 2008, he formed NEXUS GLOBAL SUPPLY CHAIN NETWORK, INC a network of over 40 companies into seven strategic business units with $13.2M in new, network contracts. One of the seven SBUs, NEXUS QUALITY SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT GROUP, LLC (The Supplier Development Institute) his family owned and operated enterprise built on dependability, integrity, resolve, integration and pragmatic quality management services.

His Motto: Quality Management systems have not significantly changed since 1941. Learn the quality fundamentals and define your QMS. If you dont, others will define it for you.

His belief: "A company exists to solve problems for its customers and the community at-large, focus on that one thing and you will be successful and a good steward"

Louis is married, wife in graduate school, with a daughter in undergrad and he enjoys the history channel
