Event description

Description

Series Overview: Contrary to often-held conventional thought, graphic novels can be an excellent source of literary material when attempting to expand your students’ proficiency with close reading strategies, critical thinking, and visual literacy skills. Like traditional genres, they include characters, plot, theme development, and a hero’s quest. During this series, we’ll explore how graphic novels can provide opportunities to develop your students’ media literacy, teach essential nonfiction and fiction elements, engage students in high-level analysis and discussions, and foster your students’ enthusiasm for reading. You'll leave this series equipped with the necessary tools to successfully integrate graphic novels into your curriculum.

Session 3: Teacher Share

Description: There’s learning about and engaging with new ideas and then there’s actually seeing these ideas in action. During this final session, teachers will share and demonstrate their lesson plans and activities that they have tried and tested in the classroom.

Coaching will be available for teachers between sessions 2 and 3 of this series.

Presenter: Lizelena Iglesias

Audience: ABE, Pre-HSE, HSE instructors
