P&F Bible School : Revelation 9-10 - Overcoming the Religious Spirit

The Passion & Fire Bible School is offering a weekend course on Revelation 9-10: Overcoming the Religious Spirit, in Pasadena, CA, August 11-12, 2023!

Course Location:

The course will be hosted by SoCal SSM at their Pasadena campus at Pasadena Church, located at 425 Sierra Madre Villa Ave, in Pasadena, CA.  Dr. Brian Simmons, the lead translator of The Passion Translation, will be the instructor.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL ATTENDEES:  This course is being FILMED which means all participants will be required to adhere to a specific timeline for being in their seats, at the beginning of each session.  This also means that late-comers will be required to wait outside of the sanctuary until the next break between sessions, so that the room remains quiet for filming.  Each session is approximately 29 minutes in length.  Thank you in advance, for your understanding and cooperation.

Course Length:

This P&F Bible School course includes approximately 5-6 hours of in-depth study of Chapter 9-10 of the book of Revelation, over the course of one evening and one morning. 

Course Schedule:

• Friday, Aug 11:  6:00pm-9:30pm (participants must be seated by 6:30pm)
• Saturday, Aug 12:  8:30am-12:30pm (participants must be seated by 9am)

Please plan to be at the course on time.  The majority of the scheduled time is used for actual teaching.

Course Overview:

Revelation 9-10: Overcoming the Religious Spirit is the sixth installment of the P&F Bible School's Revelation series. Here is a preview of what this course has in store for us!

The sting of the religious spirit has left many believers defeated and discouraged. Today's impossible-to-please Pharisees have made the "easy yoke" of Christ something hard to bear. In this powerful study, we will see from the smokescreen of lies the tormenting locust hoard coming forth to trouble God's people. But take heart! The grace gospel is more than enough to overcome every spirit of darkness, including the vile "religious spirit."

Composed of archaic traditions and obsolete practices, and masterminded by the enemy of our souls, the spirit of religion seeks to keep individual believers and the corporate church stagnant and unaware of the call of the Holy Spirit for change. We witnessed the spirit of religion when the Pharisees failed to recognize the coming of Christ. Today, the spirit of religion can be so subtle that we are unaware of its impact, instead being deceived into believing that God is directing us. Only when we recognize the hold that this counterfeit religion has over Christianity can we be freed to experience the transformation of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in the heart of the church.

Often working as a counterfeit to the Holy Spirit, the religious spirit is the greatest threat we face to personal, family, territorial, national, and global revival. It is one of the most reliable ways for the enemy to get Christians off the path God has for them by keeping them stuck in attitudes of complacency, legalism, control, pride, and hypocrisy. The religious spirit can steal your joy, quench your gifts, silence your voice, and destroy your relationships. Despite all this, Christians tend to underestimate or misunderstand the pervasive damage this spirit can cause, both in the church and in their own lives. This study will empower you to recognize the warning signs of a religious spirit at work and provide the tools you need to defeat it within yourself and to help others walk in enduring freedom. If you are ready to conquer the enemy's work against your life and are eager to experience new joy and freedom in your Christian walk, this course is for you!

Dr. Brian Simmons is a former missionary, linguist, minister, and Bible teacher. As a missionary, he and his wife, Candice, pioneered church plants in Central America. As a linguist, Brian co-translated the Kuna New Testament for the Paya-Kuna people of Panama. He is also a gifted teacher of the Bible who has authored several books and serves churches worldwide through his teaching ministry. He and his wife have been described as true pioneers in ministry, laboring together for forty years to bring spiritual revival and present Christ in His fullness, wherever God sends them.

After a dramatic conversion to Christ in 1971, Brian answered a calling from God to leave everything behind, become a missionary, and bring the gospel to unreached tribes. Taking their family of three children to the jungles of Central America, he and his wife pioneered and shepherded church plants among the Kuna people group for many years. While serving as missionaries Brian witnessed firsthand God’s powerful gospel-movement among the nations through spiritual revival. As a linguist, Brian also served as a co-translator for the Kuna New Testament, providing this unreached people group with a copy of God’s Word for the first time.

After their ministry overseas, Brian and Candice returned to North America, where Brian began to passionately work toward helping people encounter the risen Christ and His story of redemption. Brian and Candice birthed numerous ministries, including the dynamic church Gateway Christian Fellowship in West Haven, Connecticut. They also established Stairway Ministries under which they travel full-time as Bible teachers in service of local churches throughout the world with the gospel. Brian serves on the leadership team for Harvest International Ministries, which oversees a network of nearly 20,000 churches and ministries worldwide.

Brian is the author of numerous books that promote the redemption and reconciliation of the nations through Christ and extension of His kingdom. His best-selling book, The Journey of the Bride, has been translated into Korean and French. Other titles include: Prayer Partners with Jesus, The Dreamer, The Stairway, The Prophet of Zion, Moses the Deliverer, and The Image-Maker. Currently he is working on a new, fresh dynamic-equivalent translation of the entire Bible, called The Passion Translation.

Brian and Candice have been married for fifty-one years and have three children, six grandchildren, and four great-children. Their passion is to be loving examples of a spiritual father and mother to this generation.
