Description

Italian journalist Paolo Borrometi, an expert on the Sicilian mafia, will receive the 2019 Peter Mackler Award for Courageous and Ethical Journalism at a ceremony at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism on Sept. 25, 2019.

Borrometi has won numerous prizes in Italy, including the "Cavaliere dell’Ordine al merito della Repubblica italiana," presented to him in 2015 by Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

Following the award ceremony, four journalists will discuss the challenges of reporting in a panel titled- The Danger of Reporting Hidden Truths. The panelist include:

  • Ian Fisher, Bloomberg editor and former foreign correspondent and editor at The New York Times (moderator)
  • Susan Chira, editor-in-chief of the Marshall Project and former New York Times foreign editor
  • Courtney C. Radsch, advocacy director for the Committee to Protect Journalists
  • Andrew Rosati, Bloomberg reporter in Venezuela and current Knight-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University

Tickets to the ceremony are $25 online, $35 at the door.
