PESI: Legal and Ethical Issues with Technology in Mental Health

Executive Court Conference Center | 1199 S. Mammoth Road | Manchester NH
Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (EDT)

Course Description:

A client goes on vacation and they want to schedule a session while they are out of state. How do you ethically and legally practice in this situation?

Smart phones are used for scheduling and for exchanging information. What happens if these phones are misplaced?

Emails are used to send important information to other professionals. How do we ensure the right person receives this information?

How do you ensure confidentiality of your clients in this digital age?

In today’s technologically advanced world it is difficult to keep up with the ever-changing laws and standards for using technology in our field. There are issues that are not clearly defined.

Joni Gilbertson, MA, NCC, LCPC, will use her wealth of experiences, real-life case examples, entertaining videos, and thought provoking scenarios to make challenging topics and concepts easy to discuss and learn. Be recognized for your experience and knowledge in compliance and ethics and technology and move your practice forward.

Attend this engaging workshop and walk away being more confident with:

  • New laws regarding using technology in your mental health practice
  • What the code of ethics states and how to apply this information
  • Navigate the gray areas and practice safely
  • The ability to immediately apply the information and new skills with your clients near and far

FAQs for sponsored trainings

What is this application process for?

Network4Health is pleased to purchase/reimburse training registrations for particular events. We generally sponsor a limited number of seats, and this process allows us to track who is interested in attending so that we are able to accurately know whom we are paying for.

Does Network4Health reserve seats at these trainings?

Generally no, we don't. Instead, Network4Health will pay a training vendor per attendee after the training is over. Each vendor has unique steps to follow. We cannot guarantee you a seat at any vendor training. You must confirm with the vendor.

Once I fill out this form, does that mean I am registered for the event?

No, it means you are pre-registered. This is only the first step (expressing your interest in accessing payment/reimbursement for registration costs only).

Why does Network4Health make me complete Eventbrite registrations?

Consider the N4H Eventbrite process a “pre- registration.” N4H gathers your information for the DSRIP waiver. This information is used to track mission specific trainings being offered as well as the attendees that are afforded the opportunity to attend the trainings. Please note that attendees are responsible for registering directly with training vendors.

How do I register for the event itself?

Each event/vendor is different. Once an individual has completed this registration process, an automatic email with specific instructions on how to register for the actual event will be sent out to the email address given to us. Specific instructions can be found both on the N4H Eventbrite we use as event pre-registration and also in the confirmation email.

Will I have to pay upfront and get reimbursed later?

You may be required to pay upfront. Each vendor is different. Some require payment upfront to confirm a seat while others work with N4H allowing us to pay for your seat once the training has closed. Please note: Once you have completed this registration step, you will be sent an email with specific instructions on how to register for the event itself. This may include certain steps to take to indicate Network4Health will be paying for your registration fee. You are registered when the vendor confirms you are registered for the event.

I tried to register but the event is at capacity. I thought I was guaranteed a seat?

Unfortunately, Network4Health is not guaranteeing seats at trainings. We recommend that you still complete this process and register with the vendor to get on their waitlist.

What happens if I can’t attend the training after I’ve registered?

In an effort to maximize grant funds, we ask that our registrants make every effort to attend all or part of the training they registered for. If you find that you need to cancel your registration, please notify the N4H team at n4h.workforcedevelopment@cmc-nh.org as soon as possible. It would be helpful if you have identified another staff member to go in your place. Registrants are subject to the individual vendor cancellation policy and should make note. A “no-show” registrant will be required to pay for their own seat. A “no-show” may jeopardize future trainings being covered.

Will the waiver cover travel expenses for a training I wish to attend?

Unfortunately, travel, lodging and any additional expenses are on your own. Network4Health is happy to cover the registration of most educational programs that are relevant to the mission of the waiver upon approval from Geoffrey Vercauteren, Workforce Development Director.

Should you have any questions or concerns about this process please feel free to contact our team at

N4h.workforcedevelopment@cmc-nh.org

Thank you!
