Description

Learn how a typical urban landscape was made into a beautiful, water-wise, and shade tolerant garden.

We're bringing back a look at this beautiful landscape makeover by popular demand! Selected in 2012 for the Water-Wise Landscape Tour sponsored by Dallas Water Utilities, Paula Spletter's garden includes over 100 types of plants, but very little grass. Yes, there's a sprinkler system, but even it's not used that much. She began to install her shady oasis in 2011: a series of drought-tolerant, beautiful garden spaces low on maintenance. This presentation details her process, including how she artfully uses containers and succulents to problem-solve her garden while still managing to cut her water bill in half.

Learn how Paula learned to “start small and work from there” in this free class!

Our Personal Gardens series aims to give you an informal look at the actual gardens of our staff and hear their own experiences. These free programs give you a chance to ask your questions directly to the gardener, and to see how plants have performed for them in the real world after they've grown and established.

Master Gardener, herbalist, and self-acknowledged plant collector, Paula Spletter is NHG's Creative Director, designing seasonal color containers and displays. With North Haven Gardens since 2015, Paula regularly presents a variety of programs and workshops at NHG. Paula has a longtime love affair with any succulent, and is an active member of the Garden Masters, Inc. group that meets with us monthly.
