The purpose of the day is to provide a safe space and opportunity for delegates to learn, assess their skills, share experience, reflect and set goals, with the ultimate aim of maximising potential

Objectives

  • To provide knowledge, share timeless success tips, provoke thought and help deepen insight
  • To provide space for personal goal-(re)setting and motivation and courage to act

By the end of the event you should have:

  • Insights, timeless tips and tools that will support your personal and professional development
  • Opportunity to write and review a high-level commitment and personal development plan, including top 3 ‘next steps’

Agenda

  • The employment minefield: presenting the best ‘you’ to get ahead in your career

This session will help you to reflect on the impact you can make in relation to your career and to identify your own personal strengths and weaknesses and how to present these to have the greatest impact in interviews. At the end of the session, you should have an increased awareness of how others see you and the power you have to present the best possible you to others.

  • Journey into self – opening up to understanding and accepting self and others

This will come with experiential exercises and enable you to have a better understanding of yourself and others and aid in personal and interpersonal development.

  • Faith in the Public Space

These sessions will be led by three very experienced and gifted leaders

Jane Usherwood
Jane was Secretary-General of Universitas 21, a network of leading global universities, for more than ten years. She provided strategic leadership and policy advice regarding U21 activities and was responsible for all operational matters. During her time in office, she oversaw an increase in the size of the network, welcoming members from Africa, central and south America as part of a strategy to globalise membership. Prior to that, her career was in personnel, culminating in 6 years as the Director of Human Resources at the University of Birmingham. She has worked in many countries, including a spell selling vacuum cleaners door-to-door in Germany. She is currently involved in charitable work and is a Trustee of a Foodbank, as well as having spent time as Treasurer of her local church.

Dr Wemi Agboaye
Wemi is a chartered and registered counselling psychologist. She is also a registered social worker and psychotherapist. She has many years’ experience of working in mental health services with children and families. She has also worked in relationship therapy, eating disorders, neuro-development conditions and is currently working in an older adults’ psychology service. She provides a person-centred, holistic approach that starts from where the client is. This approach allows the client to feel safe and work through issues at their own pace, developing insight and finding meaning, purpose and direction on life issues. Wemi will bring her specialist knowledge and experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures to provide a generalist session that can enable people to have a better understanding of themselves and others and aid their personal and interpersonal development.

Helen Mbakwe
Helen spent many years as a teacher and headteacher in inner-city London. She served as the layperson on a tribunal for a period of four years, serving as chair for three years. She retains her passion as an educator and continues to support young people with challenges although much of her current focus is on reaching and restoring those at the margins of society. She is deeply involved in the community outreach programme of her local church based in one of the most challenging boroughs in London. Her powerful speaking and intercessory gifts have touched many lives and her ministry has taken her to many parts of the UK, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.

There will be lots of activities in between to make your experience richer. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
