Event description

Description

Permaculture & Regenerative Design: A method of creating the built environment using the most environmentally benign practice possible.

This lecture / workshop will engage participants in an interdisciplinary and hands on experience demonstrating how to create a resilient agro-ecology and architectural system that integrates with the surrounding biotic community and collaborates with natural processes.

During this three hour program you will learn how to address many of the primary anthropogenic challenges threatening the world’s aquatic and terrestrial resources. Solutions to overdevelopment applicable to coastal communities throughout the world facing climate change will be presented. Dr. Fasanella fills in the gaps between the human food web, our built environment, and the externalities that affect the surrounding ecosystem.

Topics reviewed include: alternative architecture, ecological engineering, environmental justice, regenerative community development, relocation self-build housing, and sustainable food systems. All attendees will be involved in a group project that provides in-depth training in how to solve problems at a local level.

With 90 percent of the human population expected to relocate during the first half of our current century to urban communities set along waterways, this program is of particular relevance to those with an interest in: agriculture • architecture • ecology • ecotourism • engineering • environmental design • food studies • landscape architecture • sustainability
