About this event

This three-hour program aims to increase response and knowledge of health care professionals related to substance use disorders and pregnancy to improve medical outcomes. Learn to identify social determinants of health that impact people with perinatal substance use disorder and create barriers to prenatal care. Understand how drugs affect a developing fetus, common challenges for people in addiction recovery and what treatments work best for both mom and fetus. Local resources for treatment will be identified and shared.

Target Audience:

Specialties - Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry

Objectives:

1. Discuss how substance use during pregnancy can be a barrier to prenatal care.

2. Explain the affect drugs can have on fetal development.

3. Describe what treatment works best for pregnant and parenting women.

4. Identify the common challenges for people in addiction recovery.

5. Recognize the effects of substance abuse on overall maternal health.

6. Identify local resources available for management and treatment of SUD in pregnancy.
