Description

All are invited to participate in this training on cultural competence and minority maternal mental health. Training will begin promptly at 9:00 AM and light breakfast will be served. All participants will recieve 3.5 CEs upon completion of the program that qualify for the following National Board of Professional Counselors, (NBCC) Content Areas (Category 1):

  • Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders

  • Social And Cultural Foundations (multicultural competency in mental health clinicians)

  • Wellness and Prevention in Counseling Treatment


Learning Objectives/ Upon completion of this training participants will be able to:

1. Discuss and identify cultural/spiritual issues in
perinatal mood & anxiety disorders (PMADs).
2. Assess/ screen for PMADs
3. Identify treatment options & resouces for women with
PMADs
4. Learn and describe symptoms of PMADs
5. Discuss & understand risk factors & barriers of
treating PMADs in minority women.

NBCC FOR NBCC CREDIT. AKOMA COUNSELING CONCEPTS, LLC IS SOLELY
RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ASPECTS OF THE PROGRAM. NBCC APPROVAL NO. SP-2970

Participants in all other professional disciplines will be provided with documentation of 3.5 credit hours for use in securing CE credits from their respective licensure boards and/or professional associations. A certificate for Category 1 credits will be awarded at the completion of each workshop. Please contact your state board for verification of reciprocity with other states and professions. In order to receive a certificate, registrants must attend the entire session.


Presenter:

Shivonne Odom, LCPC, LPC, NCC holds several certifications and clinical licenses. I am licensed to practice as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Washington DC, a National Certified Counselor, a certified school counselor in Washington, DC and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Maryland. I am also a board Approved Clinical Supervisor by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.

​Ms. Odom is the therapist and owner of Akoma Counseling Concepts, LLC, where she provides mental health counseling services to women and girls aged 8 years- Adult. Ms. Odom specializes in maternal mental health counseling (Postpartum depression, fertility issues, miscarriage, and postpartum anxiety). She has completed certificate training in maternal mental health counseling via Postpartum Support International (PSI) and Mary’s Center Clinic in Washington, D.C. Ms. Odom has been featured on WJLA ABC7 Good Morning Washington, WHUR 96.3, and HuffPosts "10 Black Female Therapist's You Should Know". Garage and Street parking are available for all participants. The training is located less than one block from the Metro Center Subway station.
