Event description

Description

In this workshop, we will perform short poetry as monologues, one a week for each other and then lovingly, constructively critique each other's work in a safe space to exercise both our capacity to perform effectively and our power to be a receptive and reflective audience.

Open to all levels of actors, pros, newbies and non-actors as well. It will simply require the desire to find some short form poetry that speaks to you, memorization and the willingness to be vulnerable on stage and get out of your comfort zone. Eventually we will work towards performing our favorite pieces for an invited audience. You will be invited and expected to work every week.

NOTE: This workshop differs from a poetry slam (though those have great value which I highly recommend). We will not be reading and/or reciting poetry aloud, nor will we be performing our pieces in the style of a poetry reading. This is not about putting the accent on the right syllable, or perfecting a rhythm. It is about applying principles of acting to an alternate source of emotionally rich material which very well may and hopefully might come out different every time.

All classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 7pm - 9pm

NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO CLASS ON TUESDAY, MARCH 20
